What We Check
What a Fangio Quality Check Covers
The inspection follows the same checklist every time, so nothing is left to memory. These are the main sections of the report.
Gearbox, Clutch & Driveline
Gearbox operation, noises and oil leaks, transfer box where fitted, differential, prop shaft, universal joints, CV joints and drive shaft boots, hubs and couplings.
Brakes, Steering & Suspension
Braking system operation and fluid leaks, with pad and shoe thickness measured in millimetres at all four corners. Steering play, steering assembly damage and suspension joints for wear.
Electrical & Air Conditioning
Starter motor, alternator, front and rear wiper motors and electric windows. Air conditioner cooling and compressor noise. Radio, USB and 12V socket.
Tyres, Body & Interior
Tyre tread measured on each wheel, seat belts and power windows on each door, and whether every door opens from inside and out. Modifications and service history are recorded.
The Written Report
Every item is marked checked, fault found or not applicable, readings are written in, and the technician adds comments on what needs attention now and what can wait. Signed, dated and sent to you as a PDF.

What is a quality check or pre-purchase inspection?
It is a structured mechanical inspection of a vehicle, done against a written checklist, before you buy it, sell it or hand it over. A technician goes through the engine, gearbox, clutch, driveline, cooling system, brakes, steering and suspension, electrical system, air conditioner, tyres and body, and records what was found. You get the completed report.
Is this a roadworthy test?
No. Fangio Auto is not a roadworthy testing station and does not issue roadworthy certificates. This is a mechanical inspection with a written report on the condition of the vehicle. If the car needs work before it will pass a roadworthy test, the report will show what that work is.
Which branch does quality checks?
Both. Book at Fangio Auto Randburg or Fangio Auto Hermanus and you get the same checklist and the same signed report. Dealers in the Hermanus and Overberg area already use our Hermanus branch for pre-delivery inspections on the cars they sell.
What does the report look like?
A checklist by system, with each item marked as checked, a fault noted, or not applicable, plus measured brake and tyre readings on all four corners, the vehicle details and mileage, and a comments section where the technician writes what needs attention now and what can wait. It is signed and dated, and you get it as a PDF.
How long does an inspection take?
Most inspections take a couple of hours in the workshop. Book a slot, bring the car in, and the report is ready the same day in most cases. If you are buying privately, ask the seller to bring the car to us or arrange to bring it yourself.
Do you fix what the inspection finds?
Yes, if you want us to. The report is separate from any repair. We give you the findings first, then a quote for anything you want done, and you decide. Nothing is repaired on the strength of the inspection without your go-ahead. Our Randburg branch does not repair air conditioning or trace electrical faults, so those findings are noted on the report for a specialist.
