Water Pump
On most belt-driven engines the water pump sits behind the cambelt. We replace it in the same job so you never pay the labour twice.
Tensioner & Idlers
A new belt on a tired tensioner slips or snaps early. The tensioner and idler pulleys are replaced as part of the kit.

Belt layouts change from engine to engine, even inside one model range, so we confirm the engine code before we quote. These are the cam belt jobs that come up most often and what each one involves.
Ford 1.0 EcoBoost: Focus, Fiesta and EcoSport
The 1.0 EcoBoost runs a wet timing belt that sits inside the engine and runs in oil. As it ages it can shed rubber that blocks the oil pickup and drops oil pressure, so a low oil pressure light on this engine needs attention straight away. Ford has revised the change interval more than once, so we go by your car's year and service history, not a single number. The belt is replaced with its tensioner and oil pump drive parts, and we check the oil for belt debris.
Ford EcoSport 1.5 TDCi Diesel
The diesel EcoSport does not use the wet belt of the 1.0 petrol. Its 1.5 TDCi has a conventional dry timing belt behind a cover on the side of the engine. We replace it as a kit with the tensioner and idler pulleys and check the water pump and auxiliary belt while everything is open.
Peugeot and Citroen 1.2 PureTech
Another wet belt engine. The maker has shortened the recommended interval more than once after belts wore early. A low oil pressure warning, rough running or a hard brake pedal can be early signs, because belt debris blocks the oil strainer. Short oil change intervals help, and we check the belt condition whenever the car is in.
VW 1.0 and 1.4 TSI
Newer VW TSI petrol engines (the EA211 family, from about 2012) use a dry timing belt. The older 1.4 TSI (EA111) used a timing chain instead, so the engine code decides which job your Polo or Golf needs. Send us the details and we confirm before quoting.

A cambelt rarely warns you before it goes, so the interval matters more than the symptoms. Book a check if:

Cambelt Replacement - FAQs
Is a cambelt the same as a timing belt?
Yes. Cambelt (or cam belt) is the everyday South African term and timing belt is the manufacturer's term. It is one part, a toothed rubber belt that keeps the camshaft and crankshaft turning in time with each other.
When should a cambelt be replaced?
It depends on the engine. Most makers set an interval between 60,000 km and 120,000 km, or a number of years, whichever comes first. Rubber ages even when the car stands, so a low-mileage older car can still be due. We confirm the interval for your engine.
What happens if the cambelt snaps?
On an interference engine the pistons hit the open valves. Bent valves, damaged pistons and often a cylinder head repair follow. Replacing the belt on time costs a fraction of that.
Why replace the water pump with the cambelt?
Because the pump usually sits behind the belt, so the labour to reach it is the same. A pump that fails later means paying that labour again, and a leaking pump often takes the new belt with it.
