Got Questions?

CV Joint - FAQs

What does a failing CV joint sound like?

The classic sign is a clicking or knocking noise when turning, especially on tighter turns. A worn inner joint can cause a clunk when pulling away. We road-test and inspect to confirm it before quoting.

What causes CV joints to fail?

Most failures start with a split CV boot. Once the boot tears, the protective grease escapes and dirt and water get in, which wears the joint out. Catching a split boot early can save the joint entirely.

Can a split CV boot be replaced without replacing the joint?

Often, yes, if it is caught early before the joint is damaged. If the joint has already worn or started clicking, it usually needs replacing. We inspect and tell you the honest, cost-effective option.

Is it safe to drive with a worn CV joint?

Not for long. A badly worn joint can eventually fail completely, which can leave the car unable to drive and may happen without much warning. It is best to have it checked promptly.

Which branches replace CV joints?

Both. CV joint and driveshaft work is done at Randburg and at Hermanus. Pick your nearest branch on our contact page.
