Noise Diagnosis
A road test and a lift check with the wheel spun and rocked, so we know which bearing is worn before anything is ordered.
Hermanus & Randburg
A hum or drone that rises with road speed and changes when you steer is the classic sign of a worn wheel bearing. At Fangio Auto we confirm which corner it is, replace the bearing or hub unit with a quality part and check the ABS ring and hub nut torque, at both our Randburg and Hermanus branches.
What We Do
A bearing that is left too long damages the hub and can seize. We find the noisy corner and fix only that one.
A road test and a lift check with the wheel spun and rocked, so we know which bearing is worn before anything is ordered.
Front and rear pressed bearings removed and the new bearing pressed into the hub or knuckle with the correct tooling.
Bolt-on hub and bearing assemblies, common on bakkies and SUVs, replaced as a complete unit.
The ABS reluctor ring and wheel speed sensor checked and cleaned, because a damaged ring puts the ABS light on after a bearing job.
Tapered bearings on trailers and older vehicles cleaned, repacked with grease and correctly preloaded.
New hub nut and seal fitted and torqued to spec, so the new bearing is not overloaded from day one.
Warning Signs
Bearing noise starts quietly and gets louder over weeks. These are the signs.
Why Choose Fangio
We replace the bearing that is worn, with the right part, and we check what sits around it.
Bearing noise travels through the body. We confirm the corner on the lift so you do not pay for two bearings to fix one.
Pressed bearings fitted with a press and the correct adaptors, not a hammer, so the new race is not damaged going in.
Wheel bearing work is done at Randburg and at Hermanus to the same standard, with quality bearing kits.

Got Questions?
Usually a hum, drone or growl that gets louder as road speed rises and often changes when you steer one way. It does not change with engine revs, which separates it from an exhaust or engine noise.
For a short while at low speed, but not for long. A badly worn bearing runs hot, can damage the hub and in the worst case can seize or let the wheel wobble. Have it checked as soon as you hear it.
A bolt-on hub unit is usually done within a few hours. A pressed bearing takes longer because the hub or knuckle has to come off and go in the press. We confirm the time when we quote.
Many bearings carry the ABS reluctor ring. When the bearing wears, the gap to the sensor changes and the ABS light comes on. Replacing the bearing normally clears it, and we check the sensor at the same time.
Yes. Most bakkies and SUVs use a bolt-on hub and bearing unit, which we replace as a complete assembly, including the ABS sensor where it is part of the unit.
Both. Randburg and Hermanus each do wheel bearing diagnosis and replacement.
