When should I replace my timing belt?
Intervals vary by engine, typically somewhere between 60,000 km and 120,000 km or a set number of years. Because a failed belt can destroy an engine, it's critical to stick to the manufacturer's schedule. We'll confirm the exact interval for your car.
Should the water pump be replaced with the timing belt?
On many engines, yes. The water pump is often driven by the timing belt, so replacing both at once saves you a second round of labour later and avoids a coolant leak forcing the job to be redone.
What happens if the timing belt breaks?
On an interference engine, a snapped belt can let the valves and pistons collide, causing major and expensive internal damage. That's why preventative replacement is far cheaper than waiting for failure.
How do I know if my car has a timing belt or chain?
It depends on the engine. Belts need periodic replacement; chains generally last longer but can still fail. We'll confirm which your car has and what it needs.
