Control Arm & Ball Joint Replacement

Usually a knock or clunk over bumps, and sometimes a creak when turning at low speed. A badly worn ball joint can also make the steering feel loose. We check for play with the wheel off the ground to confirm it.

Not for long. A worn bush mostly costs you tyre wear and comfort, but a badly worn ball joint can separate, which lets the wheel fold under the car. If you hear a new knock or the steering feels loose, have it checked promptly.

It depends on the car. On many cars the bushes and ball joint can be replaced on their own, which is cheaper. On others they come as one unit with the arm. We quote for the option that fixes the fault at the lowest sensible cost.

The most common cause is a worn stabiliser (anti-roll bar) link or bush, which is a small and inexpensive part. Worn shocks, control-arm bushes and ball joints make a similar noise, so we inspect the whole corner before quoting.

Yes. Replacing a control arm, ball joint or tie rod end changes the wheel geometry. We check and set the alignment afterwards so the car steers straight and the tyres wear evenly.
