Emissions Control System Repairs

A check engine light with an emissions code, black smoke, a diesel that has lost power or a car that will not pass a roadworthy usually comes back to the emissions system: the EGR valve, the DPF, the catalytic converter or a sensor. At Fangio Auto we diagnose the code properly and repair the part that has failed, at both Randburg and Hermanus.

What We Do

Emissions Work at Fangio Auto

Emissions faults are diagnosed with data, not by swapping parts until the light goes off.

Emissions Fault Diagnosis

Fault codes read and live sensor data checked, so we know whether it is the sensor, the valve or the engine that is at fault.

EGR Valve Cleaning & Replacement

Carbon-choked EGR valves and coolers cleaned or replaced, the most common cause of lost power and black smoke on diesels.

DPF Diagnosis & Regeneration

Blocked diesel particulate filters diagnosed, forced regeneration done where the filter can be saved, and replacement where it cannot.

Catalytic Converter & Lambda Sensors

Failed catalytic converters and oxygen sensors that cause efficiency codes and failed emissions tests replaced.

Intake & Carbon Cleaning

Intake manifolds and throttle bodies caked in carbon from EGR soot cleaned so the engine breathes again.

Evap & Breather Faults

Fuel vapour system leaks, breather valves and vacuum leaks that put the check engine light on found and repaired.

Warning Signs

When to Book a Check

Emissions faults get worse the longer they run. Book a check when you see these.

Check engine light with an EGR, DPF, catalyst or lambda code Black smoke from a diesel under acceleration Loss of power, hesitation or limp mode A DPF warning light that stays on Fuel consumption that has gone up for no reason A rotten-egg smell from the exhaust

Why Choose Fangio

Why Owners Choose Fangio

We fix emissions faults properly and legally, and we tell you when a cheap clean will do instead of a new part.

01

Data Before Parts

An emissions code names a circuit, not a part. Live data tells us whether the sensor or the component has failed, before anything is ordered.

02

Clean Where It Can Be Cleaned

Many EGR valves and DPFs can be cleaned or regenerated. We quote for the repair that is actually needed.

03

Both Branches

Emissions diagnosis and repair is done at Randburg and at Hermanus, on petrol and diesel engines.

Got Questions?

Emissions Control System - FAQs

What does an EGR fault code mean?

The exhaust gas recirculation valve is stuck, blocked with carbon or its position sensor has failed. On diesels it is one of the most common faults and usually shows as lost power and black smoke.

Can a blocked DPF be cleaned?

Often, yes. If the soot load is not too high a forced regeneration clears it. A filter blocked with ash or one that has been driven too long past the warning has to be replaced.

Will you delete or remove the EGR or DPF?

No. Removing emissions equipment is illegal on a road car and it fails a roadworthy. We repair the system so it works as designed.

Why does my diesel smoke black?

Too much fuel or too little air. A blocked EGR valve, a choked intake, a boost leak or a faulty injector are the usual causes, and a diagnostic check tells us which.

Why does the check engine light come back after the code is cleared?

Because the fault is still there. Clearing a code hides the symptom for a few trips. We diagnose the cause so the light stays off.

Which branch does emissions repairs?

Both. Randburg and Hermanus each diagnose and repair emissions system faults.
