CVT care on the Qashqai, X-Trail, Micra and Magnite
Nissan's CVT gearbox is smooth and efficient, but it is fussy about fluid. It needs the correct Nissan-spec CVT fluid, and old or wrong fluid is a common cause of shudder, whining and slipping.
We check the fluid condition and read the gearbox fault memory at services, and change the fluid when it is due. Catching a CVT problem early costs far less than a gearbox.
NP200: the workhorse
The NP200 1.6 petrol uses a timing belt, which must be replaced on time. A snapped belt can wreck the engine. The 1.5 dCi diesel needs clean fuel and regular longer drives to keep its injectors and DPF healthy.
Because most NP200s carry weight every day, we also check the clutch, rear springs, brakes and tyres at each service.
Navara and NP300 diesels
The 2.5 dCi Navara and NP300 are strong engines that reward regular oil changes. Late oil changes are hard on the timing chain and the injectors. We service them to Nissan's schedule, check the 4x4 system and diff oil on four-wheel-drive models, and reset the service light.
Magnite 1.0 turbo
Small turbo petrol engines like the Magnite's work hard and run hot. Using the right grade of oil and changing it on time protects the turbo. We use oil to Nissan's specification and reset the service reminder after every service.

Do you do DPF cleaning on Nissan dCi engines?
Yes. DPF blockage is common on the 1.5 and 1.6 dCi (Qashqai, X-Trail, Micra, NP200 dCi), especially on short city trips. We do forced regenerations, cleaning and replacements.
Do you service the Nissan CVT gearbox?
Yes. The CVT in the Qashqai, X-Trail, Micra and Magnite needs a scheduled fluid service; we also diagnose and fix CVT shudder.
How often should the CVT fluid be changed on a Qashqai or X-Trail?
It depends on the model, year and how the car is driven. Heat, traffic and towing wear the fluid faster. We check the fluid condition at every service and tell you when it is due, then change it with Nissan-spec CVT fluid.
Does the NP200 have a timing belt?
The NP200 1.6 petrol has a timing belt that must be replaced on schedule, because a snapped belt can badly damage the engine. We check your service history and tell you when it is due.
Do you service the Navara and NP300?
Yes. We service 2.5 dCi Navara and NP300 bakkies to Nissan's schedule, including injectors, the 4x4 system, diff oil and the service-light reset.
How do I reset the Navara service light?
