Air Suspension & Air Bellow Replacement

A corner that sags overnight, a compressor that never stops or a suspension warning on the dash usually means a leaking air bellow. At Fangio Auto Hermanus we test the system, replace the split air spring with a new one and check the compressor and valves that feed it, so the car sits level again.

What We Do

Air Suspension Work at Fangio Auto Hermanus

Replacement with the correct new parts. We do not convert air suspension to coil springs.

Old air suspension bellow removed from a car, split along its fold

Air Bellow Replacement

Cracked, perished or split air springs replaced with new units for that corner of the car.

Leak Testing

The system is pressure tested so we know whether it is the bellow, a line or a valve that is leaking.

Compressor & Relay Checks

The compressor, its relay and the dryer checked, because a leak makes them work until they fail.

Valve Block & Air Lines

Leaking valve blocks and chafed air lines found and replaced where they are the cause.

Height Sensors & Calibration

Ride height sensors checked and the system calibrated after the new parts are fitted.

Fault Code Diagnosis

Suspension warnings on the dash read with dealer-level diagnostics before any part is quoted.

Warning Signs

When to Book a Check

Air suspension faults show up as a change in ride height long before the warning light.

One corner sits lower after the car has been parked The compressor runs for a long time or never seems to stop A suspension or ride-height warning on the dash The car sits low on the bump stops and rides harshly A hissing sound near a wheel after parking The rear sags when the car is loaded

Why Choose Fangio

Why Owners Choose Fangio

The one independent workshop in the Overberg that does this work properly.

01

Tested Before Replaced

We find the leak first. A new bellow on a corner with a leaking valve would sag again within weeks.

02

RMI-Approved Workshop

Hermanus is an RMI-approved workshop with dealer-level diagnostic equipment for the systems that manage air suspension.

03

Transparent Quoting

You see the split bellow and get a clear quote before any part is fitted.

Air Suspension - FAQs

What is an air bellow and why does it fail?

The air bellow, also called the air spring, is the rubber bag that replaces a coil spring on air suspension. It flexes with every bump, so over the years the rubber cracks and eventually splits, usually at the bottom fold. Once it leaks, the compressor runs constantly to keep up and that corner of the car sags.

Do you repair air bellows or replace them?

We replace them. A cracked or split bellow cannot be patched safely, so we fit a new air spring for that corner. The compressor, valve block and sensors are checked at the same time so the new bellow is not left doing the work of a failed part.

Do you convert air suspension to normal coil springs?

No. We replace the air suspension parts with the correct new parts and keep the car as it was designed. If you are considering a conversion, that is not something we offer.

Why does my car sag overnight on one corner?

A slow leak in that corner's air bellow is the usual cause. The system holds pressure while the compressor is running and loses it once the car is parked. A leaking air line or valve can do the same, so we test the system before quoting for a bellow.

Is it safe to drive with a leaking air bellow?

Not for long. The car rides on the bump stops on that corner, which is harsh and hard on the tyre and the shock absorber, and the compressor can burn out from running constantly. Have it checked promptly.
